William Harold Vaught

Memorial services with military honors for William Harold Vaught, 92, of Bonham, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 in the Willow Wild Cemetery Pavillion under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. A private committal service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015. Harold passed away Sunday night, Feb. 22, 2015 at Red River Regional Hospital in Bonham.

Harold was born June 15, 1922 in the Edhube Community of Fannin County, Texas, the son of William Roy Vaught and Nellie Jane Jones Vaught. He was a 1940 graduate of Ladonia High School and served in the US Army Air Force during WWII from Oct. 15, 1942 until Dec. 1, 1945. Harold was a 1949 graduate of East Texas State Teacher's College with a Bachelors Degree. In 1953 he received his Masters Degree in Education with an Administration Certificate for Principal and Superintendent. Harold taught, coached and was a principal for 21 years – Trenton, ISD, Dallas ISD, W. E. Grenier Jr. High, Florence Hill (teacher and principal) and taught Texas History for 15 years to 7th graders in Grand Prairie ISD. He played baseball in Trenton and for the Bonham Cotton Mill and the Greenville Majors in 1946. For a time, Harold worked for Temco and was a toll attendant and security guard in Dallas. He was also night manager for Jiffy Corp for 10 years. Harold was a life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Herbert Vaught and Clarence Vaught, a sister, Geneva Dell Thompson and a nephew, Billy Bowen, who was killed in Vietnam.

Harold is survived by his sister, Iva Loy Bowen of Bonham, TX; nephew, Robert Bowen and wife, Virginia of Bonham, TX and their daughter, Susan; niece, Theresa Cochran, and her daughter, Kimberly and granddaughter, Nadia.
