William S. Thompson III, 88, loving husband of Dori H. Thompson went to his heavenly home on February 5, 2026. He was known to his family and friends as Bill.
Bill was preceded in death by his Father W.S. Thompson Jr. Mother Edith Pauline MacGee Thompson. His brother Edward Neil Thompson. His brother’s wife Nancy J. Thompson, and his first wife Virginia C. Thompson.
Bill is survived by his loving spouse of almost 16 years Dori H. Thompson. His sister-in-law Peggy Jaynes, His son William S. Thompson IV and wife Cindy Thompson. His daughter Violet C. Wittel and husband Chet Wittel. His step daughter Nikki and husband Doug Harris. His grandchildren Bobby Foster and Wife Tina Foster, Elizabeth and Allison Graham, Taylor N. Thompson and husband Christopher T. Del Bosque, Selene Thompson, Courtney Scott, Ashley Harris, Lindsey Schuchert, and Brittney Kaufman. Great grandchildren Adam and Asher Foster and numerous nieces and nephews.
At the time of his death, Bill lived in Irving, TX, but he was born in Denver, Colorado on April 1, 1937. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and Physics from Oklahoma University and a Masters in Physics from the University of Texas, Dallas. Bill attained the rank of Captain in the Marine Corp. Bill worked for Texas Instruments as an engineer and physicist in lens design, before starting his own business. He was owner of Optical Services Company for over 40 years. After retiring, he taught physics, science and math at the Lucas Christian Academy in Lucas, TX.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed many hobbies including snow skiing trips to Colorado with his family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors playing basketball or going on long nature walks. Bill loved spending time with his family, especially in his Cabin in Colorado where he enjoyed fly fishing and teaching, anyone who would listen, about astronomy. He was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ and regularly attended services at Westside Church of Christ in Irving, Texas. Though he is home with his Lord, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A graveside service is Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 12pm at Dodd City Cemetery, Dodd City, TX.
