William "Bill" Isom Johnson

Funeral Services for William "Bill" Isom Johnson Sr., age 78, of Bonham will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Duplex Baptist Church under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Duplex Cemetery. Dr. Brian Everett will officiate. Bill passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Woodmoore Assisted Living Center in Bonham, Texas.
Bill was born December 7, 1937, the son of James Calvin Johnson and Beatrice Arender. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Jackson Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi. He received his Bachelor's degree in Geology in 1959 at Millsaps College. Later Bill attended graduate school at the University of Kansas, University of Houston, and Oklahoma State University. He was a member of the Theta Eta Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha. Bill married Janyce Crews on August 25, 1957 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Bill was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He was a certified petroleum Geologist in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Arkansas, and numerous other geological and environmental societies. Bill was the discoverer of Pollan Oil Field in West Texas and retired as a research geoscientist at the National Institute of Petroleum Research in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was an ordained Baptist Deacon. Bill enjoyed playing the piano, accordion, and cello. He was an expert fly fisherman. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, son, William Isom Johnson, Jr., brother, James Calvin Johnson, Jr., and sister in law, Ellen Esses.
Bill is survived by his wife Janyce Johnson of Bonham; Sons, Dr. Jeff Johnson and wife Molly of Whitewright, Al Johnson and wife Rosalyn of Baytown, and Lee Johnson and wife Heather of Fishers, Indiana; sister, Mary Francis Sutton of Houston; brother-in-law, Col. David Esses (Ret.) 12 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, nephew, Col. Greg Esses (Ret.) extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home, Friday, August 12, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
