Graveside Services with Military Honors for William Compton "Bill" Norman, III, age 78, of Leonard will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs, TX under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Officiating will be his son, William Norman IV. Bill passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
He was born April 27, 1938, the son of William Compton Norman, Jr. and Joann Bennett Norman. Bill served in the US Army from 1960-1961, during the Vietnam Era, reaching the rank of SP4T, E4. He married Evelyn Alice "Evie" Donovan on October 5, 1963. Bill loved his family, especially his beloved wife Evie, whom he cared for until her passing, on January 10, 2010. Bill was the definition of a business man and entrepreneur, having owned several companies over the years. He also worked for Arthur Anderson as an accountant, Pyramid Prestress Construction, Telecare (which created the first defibrillator for ambulances), and Bay Area Remodeling and Design, from where he retired . Bill liked to hunt, loved the beach and his dogs.
Bill is survived by sons, Rev. William Norman, IV and wife Stephanie of Nacogdoches, TX and Francis Donovan "Dunnie" Norman and wife Leslie of Frisco, TX; brother Jim Norman of California; sisters, Susan Lankard of California and Jill Norman of Missouri; grandchildren, Amanda Buford and husband Royce of Dequincy, LA, Melisa Riley and husband Bryan of West Columbia, TX, William Norman, V of Beaumont, TX, Kaitlyn Norman Faul and husband Johnny of Kountz, TX, and Teague Norman of Frisco; great-grandchildren, Madison Riley, Easton Buford, Haley Buford, Audrey Riley and Oliver Faul.
Pallbearers will be Rev. William Norman, IV, Bryan Riley, Royce Buford, Mike Bonura, William Norman, V and Francis Donovan "Dunnie" Norman.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Teague Norman.
Bill will be in state at Wise Funeral Home through Friday, January 20.
The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM, Saturday (1 hour prior to the service) at Bennett Cemetery.
