Funeral services for Troy Eugene "Gene" Newman, 73, of Honey Grove, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at the Solid Rock First Pentecostal Church of God in Bonham under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Rev. Troy Miles will officiate. Burial will follow in Dodd City Cemetery. Gene passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2014 at his residence.
Gene was born July 15, 1941 in Morton, Texas, the son of Johnathan Benethon Newman and Juanita Margaret Richards Newman. He attended Lannius schools and was a US Marine veteran. He was a retired oil field worker and a member of the Solid Rock First Pentecostal Church of God. Gene enjoyed playing the guitar, fiddle and harmonica and singing country and gospel music. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Roger Dale Newman, three brothers, Terry Lee Newman, Wilburn Lee Newman and Dennis Dale Newman, and three sisters, Margaret Ann Perry, Delores Jean Newman and Ida Sherlene Newman.
Gene is survived by his wife, Julie Newman of Honey Grove, Texas;
seven sons, Willie Dean Newman, Troy Lee Newman and Jack Ray Newman (Doresa), all of Ivanhoe, Texas, Michael Gene Newman (Tina), Joey Lynn Newman and Richard Dewayne Newman all of Beaumont, Texas and
Bobby Gene Newman of Honey Grove, Texas; three daughters, Katherine Ann Smith (Jimbo) of Sash, Texas, Jill Faye Newman (Roger Lindsey) of Ivanhoe, Texas and Regina Kay of Washington; stepdaughter, Amber Andry (Chad) of Olive Branch, Mississippi; four sisters, Dorothy Workman of Hugo, Oklahoma, Carolyn VanHooser of Whitewright, Texas,
Diane Alaniz of Andrews, Texas and Sarah Jones of Windom, Texas;
former spouse, Margaret E. Newman of Ivanhoe, Texas; 28 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Chris Newman, Jacky Newman, Jeffery Newman, James Smith, Kenneth Smith, Jonathan Newman and Bobbie Newman. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Smith, R. V. Smith, Kevin Lindsey and Roger Lindsey.
