Tommy Roy

Graveside services with military honors for Master Gunnery Sergeant (Ret) Clyde Thomas "Tommy" Roy, Jr., 75, of Yuma, Arizona, formerly of Bonham, Texas will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 10, 2021 in Arledge Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.  Rev. Mike Burt will officiate.  Tommy passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 in Yuma.

Tommy was born July 10, 1945 in Bonham, Texas, the son of Clyde Thomas Roy, Sr. and Florence Evelyn McCain Roy.  He attended schools in Ivanhoe and Bonham before joining the United States Marine Corps on July 31, 1963.  His military career spanned over 28 years including tours in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with frame and palm, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars.   He also received various other medals, citations and awards during his years of dedicated service.  Tommy married Mamie Diane Conway on Feb. 24, 1967 in Bonham.  Following his retirement in 1993, he attended college for 3 years and worked for the Yuma, AZ Post Office for 6 years.  Tommy enjoyed fishing, camping and hiking.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.  Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, 2 half brothers and a half sister.

Tommy leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 54 years, Diane Roy of Yuma, AZ; two sons, Glen Roy and wife, Angela and Billy Roy, all of Yuma, AZ; 3 half brothers, Joseph Holmes, Millard Roy and Kenny Roy; two half sisters, Candy Shaffer and Cindy Roy; one granddaughter, Lindsey Burney of AZ; three step grandchildren, Stephanie Contreras, Nathalie Contreras and Christopher Contreras, all of Yuma, AZ; four great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Busby, Shane Burney, Arthur Pinkston, Quentin Shaffer, Casey Shaffer, and Jody Holmes.  Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Roy and Glen Roy.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until service time Thursday morning.
