Funeral services for Thomas Williams Mason "Tom" Long, III, 76, of Bonham, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 623 Star St. Bonham, Texas under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. The Rev. Canon Dr. Robin Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery near Leonard, Texas. Tom passed away early Tuesday morning, June 1, 2021, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.
Tom was born September 16, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana, the son of Thomas Williams Mason Long, Jr. and Margaret Ewing Johnson Long. He was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania and received his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Tom married Linda S. Grounds on July 8, 1972, in Dallas, Texas. He was a United States Navy veteran. Tom was longtime member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bonham where he served as Senior Warden of the Church and a Lay minister. He was a dedicated active member of the Fannin County Republican Party and served as Parliamentarian for many years. He was also a member of the Fannin County Railroad Board. Tom was an insurance teacher for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Eleanor Ewing Long Simmons, and a brother-in-law, Bryan Cooper Simmons.
Tom leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 49 years, Linda Grounds Long of Bonham, TX; a son, Thomas Williams Mason Long, IV and his wife, Jodi, of Angleton, TX; a daughter, Sarah Long of Bonham, TX ; a brother, Jonathan Edwards Burgwyn Long and his wife, Katherine, of Clovis, CA; a sister, Mary Daniels Long Bryant and her husband, Michael, of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Ella Katherine Long and Thomas Williams Mason Long, V; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bonham or a charity of your choice.
