Thomas "Tom" Lewis

Funeral services for Thomas "Tom" Lewis, Jr. of Bonham, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Boyd Baptist Church under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Clements and Rev. Mike Allred will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. Tom passed away Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2017 at TMC Bonham Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Tom was born Nov. 21, 1926 in Utica, Oklahoma, the son of Thomas Lewis, Sr. and Ollie Schaeffer Lewis. He married Betty Elwanda McGuire on Aug. 31, 1951 at Boyd Baptist Church in Bonham, Texas. Tom served his country honorably in the US Army (1954-1956). He retired from General Cable after 26 years and later worked for Bonham ISD for 12 years. He was a longtime active member of Boyd Baptist Church. Tom loved taking care of his cattle and his land and had a passion for growing things. He enjoyed traveling, and Alaska was his favorite place to visit. Tom loved spending time with his family and friends, and his quick wit and amusing stories will be missed by all. He was the youngest of 8 children; all of his siblings have preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Tom is survived by his Wife of 65 years, Betty Lewis of Bonham, Texas,
Daughters, Karen Chesser and husband, Glen of Bonham, Texas and Tina Ivey and husband, Bruce of Rockwall, Texas, five Grandchildren, Carmen Taylor (Jeff) of Commerce, Texas, Jeff Chesser of Atlanta, Georgia, Nikolas Chesser (Melanie) of Dallas, Texas, Jordan Ivey of New Orleans, Louisiana and Hunter Ivey of Dallas, Texas, two
Great Grandchildren, Alexis Chesser of Tyler, Texas and Drake Taylor of Commerce, Texas, Sister-in-law, Brenda Canada of New Orleans, Louisiana and her son, Zachary Canada of Galveston, Texas, Several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ray Young, Jimmy Kerr, Don Alexander, Royce Shipman, Jarrett Tucker and Don Osborne. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Tom's Sunday School Class, The David's Class.
