Steven (Steve) Louis Chaney

Steve passed away on March 12, 2018 at his home in Portland, Oregon. He was born in Richardson, Texas to Louis Cecil Chaney Jr. and Carolyn Chaney Rich.

Steve was preceded in death by his Father, Louis Chaney Jr.; Step-father, Roger Rich & Step-brother Jonathan Rich.  Also preceding him in death were his Grandparents Edie May Kerley and Wesley Hardy & Louis and Betty Chaney Sr., his Aunt Carol Holt and Uncle Kirk Janes.

Steve graduated from Plano East Senior High in Plano, Texas. He attended colleges in Denton, TX; Paris, France; Raleigh, NC; and Portland Oregon. His education abroad led to a lifelong appreciation for travel and was fortunate to have visited many countries for work and travel; leaving him with friends all across the globe.

He was an artist and designer who loved doing anything artistic and creative. Steve loved to draw and sketch, following in his mother's and grandfather's footsteps as a visual artist. In addition, Steve inherited a love of textile design from his father and had considered making and sewing custom hats (which he had a particular fondness for). Steve was a culinary artist as well and enjoyed cooking and dining with friends and family. Steve was an artist in everything he did.

Steve was a humanitarian and often donated to deserving charities and causes.  He had a soft spot for animals, big and small, and grew up with many pets which included everything from cats and dogs to bunnies, birds, and flying squirrels. Steve most recently adopted his cat, "Prince Harry" who he cherished. His most recent photos and messages were frequently of Harry.

Surviving him is his Mother, Carolyn Chaney Rich; Sister, Laura Chaney and wife Heather Buff; Sister-in-law, Sarah Rich; Nieces, Abigail Methvin and Katie Chaney; Nephews, Wesley and Tristan Rich; Aunts Debbie Chaney and Petra Janes; Cousins, Tami Hohrman, Carin Holt and Cathrin Holt;  His extended family and a host of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Portland Humane Society in lieu of flowers in honor of Steve.
