Shirlene Moreta Pannell

Shirlene Moreta (Hassey) Pannell was born on March 18, 1937 in Lamasco, Texas to Charlie and Dessie (Stevens) Hassey.  She passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022 in Bonham, TX.

Shirlene married Billy (Popeye) Pannell on January 19, 1953 in Bonham, Texas.

Shirlene, more affectionately known as "Memaw" to all who knew and loved her, enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family.  For over 40 years she prepared Sunday lunch for the whole crew.  She was also known to open her home on Wednesday and Friday nights for family and friends to gather to play dominoes.  She never met a stranger.  Shirlene worked for over 10 years at Bonham Manufacturing before moving to General Cable Company where she worked from 1972 to 1998.

Shirlene is survived by her children, Roy Pannell and wife, Teresa, Billy Pannell and wife, Donna, and Lea Ann Blain, all of Ravenna; Grandchildren, Eli Pannell (Courtney), Lisa Smith (Kyle), Steve Blain (Regina), Leslie Oliver (Brad), Jessica Stark (Brandon), Hilary Skinner (Jason) and Torri Cagle (Dalton); 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; Brothers, John Hassey and Greg Hassey; Sisters, Betty Swindell and Donna Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Shirlene was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, parents, son-in-law, Jimmy Blain, brothers, James Hassey and Jerry Hassey and sister, Charlene Moncrief.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel with graveside to follow at Mulberry Cemetery.  Rev. Ricky Granstaff will officiate.

Pallbearers are James Rougeau, Mike Richardson, Mike Bardwell, Brad Oliver, Kyle Smith and Eli Pannell.  Honorary pallbearers are Danny Skidmore, Marshall Phea, Braden Oliver, Kade Smith, Kole Smith and Rip Winkler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Mulberry or Lamasco Cemetery.
