SADIE CLEO McCARTER MILLER
Sadie Cleo (Mickey) McCarter Miller passed away on May 31, 2011 in Bonham, Texas at the age of ninety.
Sadie was born February 18, 1921 in Roda, Virginia to Dessie Elizabeth Owens and Lee Woodson Willis. She grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and married Charles (Chub) McCarter of Bonham, Texas on July 18, 1943 in Durant, Oklahoma. During his military career, Sadie and Chub lived all over the world, including Massachusetts, Texas, Kansas, Guam and North Africa.
She was led to salvation at the Mulberry Assembly of God Church by Sister Reagan in 1947, and was later baptized in the Red River. She was a founding member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Austin, Texas and was their Treasurer during fundraising, construction of the church, and until the family's military transfer to North Africa. During their time there, she conducted home church services in Tripoli, Libya and upon her family's return to the states, spent many Sunday afternoons holding services at jails and nursing homes. Sadie was a licensed/ordained minister with the Assemblies of God Church organization. She served her God faithfully and lovingly all of her days.
Upon her husband's retirement from the Air Force, they moved back to the Bonham area and she became a member of the Living Word Church of God in 1963. She taught Sunday School there until she was in her eighties.
Sadie was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid cook, raising her family on recipes she had collected during their travels. She was also a talented seamstress and crocheted miles of yarn. She made booties for every new baby she ever knew…..the last pair only three months ago. She was a volunteer at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham over 14 years and logged over 4000 volunteer hours. She gave from her heart in many ways.
Sadie is survived by two daughters, Sharon Carr and husband Scott of Bells and Linda Russell and husband Jim of Cibolo, Texas. She is also survived by granddaughters, Casey Carr Davis and husband, Tony and Morgan Russell, one grandson, Charlie Russell and twin great granddaughters, Reece and Rowan Davis. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty McCarter of Kerrville and Janie Eller of Sherman, as well as nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, Chub McCarter, and second husband, Floyd Miller, her parents and brothers, S. W. Willis, Stanley Willis and Shelby Willis and one sister, Sibil Willis.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday in Wise Funeral Home Chapel, followed by burial at Ravenna Cemetery (formerly IOOF) in Ravenna, Texas. Rev. Chuck Davis and Rev. Johnny Martin will officiate. Family night will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday night. Pallbearers will be Scott Carr, Jim Russell, Charlie Russell, Dennis Harrison, Tony Davis and Jerry Moody.
