Funeral services for Roger Pat Bowen, age 83, of Honey Grove, will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 2, 2023, in the Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM prior to the service on Monday. Rev. Kevin Towery will officiate. Burial will follow in the Burns Cemetery in Trenton. Pat passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison surrounded by the love of his devoted family. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Nurse Kat and the staff at Texoma Medical Center.
Pat was born on June 29, 1939, in Trenton, Texas, the son of Travis Woodrow Bowen and Thelma Jo Rushing Bowen. He was a 1957 graduate of Trenton High School and married the love of his life, Delores Jo Watson, on June 20, 1959 in Trenton, Texas. Jo preceded him in death on November 30, 2016 after 57 years of marriage. He was a Methodist and owned and operated Pat's Building Supply in Trenton for 20 years. After closing the lumber yard, he worked for Bonham Independent School District in the maintenance department and drove a bus for 15 years until he retired. Prior to those endeavors, he worked at General Cable, McDonald Building Supply, and drove a gas truck. Pat "Pepa" as the grandkids called him, supported them in their lives and enjoyed all of their sporting activities. Pat and Jo attended all their high school sporting events and traveled all over the country to watch them play. Not only was he their biggest fan, but he was the official stat keeper, tracking runs, hits, and strikeouts. He enjoyed watching horse races and was a faithful supporter of his favorite teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Mavericks. He was a talented man that loved woodworking and could fix anything that came his way as long as it got fixed, now. He instilled a legacy of hard work, selflessness, patience, and kindness in his family. His presence was the gentle rock of his family and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; Randy and Kelli Bowen of Honey Grove, Texas, brother and sister-in-law; Mike and Mary Bowen of Hurst, Texas, grandchildren, Katti and Dan Worley, Kassi and Nathaniel Lightfoot, Ryan and Steffanie Bowen, great grandchildren, Rylon Bechthold, Aisley Walker, and Arabella Bowen and one on the way, Maverick Worley; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Randy Bowen, Ryan Bowen, Dan Worley, Nathaniel Lightfoot, Mike Bowen and Shane Bowen.
