Rodney Ola "Rod" Peterson

Funeral services for Rodney Ola "Rod" Peterson, 75, of Ivanhoe, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2016 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Allred will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery. Rod passed away early Monday, June 6, 2016 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center in Sherman, Texas.
Rod was born June 22, 1940 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the son of Ola Herman Peterson and Hilda Quandt Peterson. He was a graduate of the Zion Lutheran School and Kearney High School in Kearney, Nebraska and attended Milford Technical School (Southeast Community College) in Nebraska. Rod was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was married to the mother of his children, Linda Roblee Peterson on April 6, 1966. On Dec. 27, 1993, he married Virginia Mae "Ginny" Palmer Gorman. He was a member of Boyd Baptist Church. Rod was instrumental in forming The Masters Hands of Bonham and managed it for many years. He was involved in the mission field and made several mission trips to India and Kenya, Africa where he was instrumental in building orphanages. He was Associate Minister at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bonham from the early 1980's through the mid 1990's. He was the owner and operator of Peterson Construction in Bonham for many years. Most recently Rod owned and operated Rogi Tree Farm, while continuing to enjoy the outdoors and construction. Rod was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Ricky Eugene Peterson (1985) and Johnny Wayne Peterson (1991) and a granddaughter, Sophia Peterson (2009).
Rod is survived by his Wife, Virginia "Ginny" Peterson; Sons, Randy Eugene Peterson and wife, Margie, Kevin Ola Peterson and wife, April, Andrew Dean Peterson, David Allen Peterson and wife, Chris, and Jose Gonzales; Daughters, Kathy Lynn Peterson Kizer, Melissa Ellen Peterson Veronie and husband, Steve, and Kathryn Metta "Katie" Peterson Dunlap and husband, Saul; Sister, LaVonne Peterson of Kearney, Nebraska; Stepsons, Daniel Gorman and wife, Claudia, Seth David Gorman and wife, Rian, Timothy John Gorman and Andrew Peter Gorman and wife, Lauren; Stepdaughters, Rebekah Ann Gorman Hartwell and husband, Barry, and Ruth Helen Gorman Tuggle and husband, Dave; Grandchildren, Krystal Ann Peterson Crace, Sara Marie Peterson Dirickson, Kristina Marie Nelson, Victoria Sulin Nelson, Braden Charles Veronie, Nicholas Ola Peterson, Daine Lee Dunlap, Haidyn Paige Peterson, Jonathan David Peterson, and Jeremy Wayne Peterson; Great Grandchildren, Nevaeh Ann Dirickson, Alica Lynn Dirickson, Luke Wayne Peterson, and Emily Brooke Peterson; Step grandchildren, Dylan Kyle Gorman, Gabriella Nicole Gorman, Julianne Lea Blomeke, Haley Nichole Gorman, Taylor Christine Gorman, Brody Kyle Gorman, Leighton Ryan Hartwell, Trevor Dale Hartwell, Corey Gene Hartwell, and Brae Andrew Gorman; A number of cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be David Peterson, Andrew Peterson, Andrew Gorman, Jeremy Peterson, Daine Dunlap and Leighton Hartwell.
Memorials may be made to Children of Promise International, Tim and Dena Stromstad or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
