Memorial graveside services for James Robert Bowen, Jr., 71, of Bonham, will be held at 5:00 PM Thursday, June 9, 2016 in Willow Wild Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Beasley and Bro. Mark Posey will officiate. Robert passed away early Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.
Robert was born September 11, 1944 in Bonham, Texas, the son of James Robert Bowen, Sr. and Iva Loy Vaught Bowen. He was a 1963 graduate of Bonham High School and attended East Texas State University. Robert married Virginia Ann Keene on June 6, 1968 in Bonham, Texas. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce, the Bonham ISD School Board and Campfire Board. Robert owned and operated Leatherwood's Men's Wear in Bonham for many years and later managed Healthline Medical Supply until his retirement. He enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his father and brother, Billy Bowen who was killed in Vietnam in 1968.
Robert is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Bowen, of Bonham, Texas; daughter, Susan Bowen of Frisco, Texas; mother, Iva Loy Bowen of Bonham, Texas; aunt, Virginia Acree of Bonham, Texas; a number of cousins including his first cousin, Theresa Cochran of Daphne, Alabama.
Virginia and Susan want to extend their heartfelt thanks to the following friends who went above and beyond to assist them, Ken and Sue Taylor, Richard and Gail Ownby, Terry and LaDonna Dunn, David and Trisha Oliver, Ray and Elaine Ashlock, Linda and Franz Howard, Charles Richard "Buddy" Lacewell and Ruth Blevins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Bonham SNAP Center of Reba's Ranch House.
