Robert Edward (Bob) Thomas

Funeral Services for Robert Edward Thomas, age 75 of Bonham, TX, will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Bonham, Texas, under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Getty. Interment will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham.
Bob passed away on June 25, 2017. He was born April 16, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Robert Emmett Thomas and Alice Panigot Thomas. Bob graduated from East Texas State University in 1964 and served in the US Army in Vietnam. Bob's career in college textbook publishing began in Dallas as a sales representative for Allyn & Bacon Publishing Company. He advanced soon to National Sales Manager for Harper & Row Publishing's College Division in New York. Later, he led the national sales and marketing division of Heinemann Educational Publishers from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. After 15 years on the East Coast, he returned to Austin, Texas for John Wiley & Sons Publishing until his retirement in 2004. It was in 2006 that Bob and Ruth Ann returned to Bonham, Texas to live out their golden years. They joined the church of his youth, First Presbyterian of Bonham. He immediately started to serve his community as Bonham ISD's school board president, serving on the Fannin County Appraisal District Board, Texoma Council of Governments, and numerous boards and committees. One of Bob's favorite commitments at that time was speaking to high school classes about his military experiences in Vietnam.
In 2010, Bob and Ruth Ann were honored to be named Fannin County's Citizens of the Year by Texoma Council of Governments. Bob was a member of Bonham's Rotary Club and Kiwanis International. Most recently, he served on the Bonham City Council and represented the council as a board member of the Texoma Council of Governments.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Emmett Thomas & Alice Thomas. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann Thomas; sons, Quinn Eric Thomas of Atlanta, GA and Scott Walker Thomas and wife Miranda Diane of Midlothian, TX; grandchildren, Justin Robert Thomas, Julia Marie Thomas, Gavin James Thomas and Karissa Lynn Thomas; sister, Carol Silver and husband Bob of Irving, TX. Other surviving family includes, Cousin Dr. Tom Aldrich and wife Janelle of St. Joseph, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the members of the Bonham City Council, City Manager, Sean Pate, and Finn Blevins. Mayor Roy Floyd will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Wise Funeral Home.
