Princeton

A Memorial Service for Richard Lee Parsons, age 65 of Princeton, TX will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Seventh and Main Baptist Church in Bonham, TX, under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bro.  Mark Posey. Richard passed away on March 31, 2018. He was born April 23, 1952 in Tyler, Texas to Douglas Sherrill Parsons and Emma Virginia Sharp Parsons.

Richard married Kim Darlene Sigrist on November 17, 1979 in Orlando, FL.  In High School Richard received many honors and commendations for his participation in band. He played the instrument fondly known as "Tubby the Tuba". Later Richard received his MA in Political Science from Farleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ in 1977.  He worked 26 years for Campbell Soup, priding himself in multiple years of perfect attendance. Richard was a very hard worker, working night shifts for much of his career, so that his daytime could be spent with his family. He loved the outdoors, specifically gardening, tending to vegetables and flowers.  He constantly strived for yard of the month.  He loved learning about history and quizzing his family on various topics. He especially enjoyed studying the history of American Indians.  He always stopped at every Historical Marker on family trips and was infamous for his "dad jokes".  He was a bit resistant to technology and insisted on continuing the lost art of handwritten letters.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Kim Darlene Parsons on November 1, 2017; parents, Douglas S. Parsons and Emma V. Parsons; daughter, Kimberly Dawn Parsons; brother, Jerry Parsons; nephew, Rusty Parsons.

Surviving are his two sons,  Robert Parsons and wife Audra of Denton and Douglas Parsons and wife Lori of Bonham; five grandchildren,  Tanner Parsons, Kaleb Polly, Grace Parsons, Brynn Parsons, and Olivia Parsons;  sister,  Janie Sigrist of Mesquite, TX;  brother,  Douglas Parsons and wife Karen of Fort Worth, TX.;  nieces and nephews, Jake Parsons, Monica Pena, Katy Kelton, Bonnie McCulley, Ginny Hazlett and Maddie McKenzie; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM (1 hour prior to service) on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Seventh & Main Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fannin County Children's Center Open Your Heart program
