Funeral services for Phyllis Ann Gibbs Gopffarth, 80, of Bonham, will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at First Baptist Church in Bonham under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Duplex Cemetery. Bro. Dave Renfrow will officiate. Phyllis passed away late Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at her residence.
Phyllis was born June 9, 1933 in the Tulip Community of Fannin County, Texas, the daughter of Russell Albert Gibbs and Ruth Lee Thompson Gibbs. She was a 1951 graduate of Bonham High School. Phyllis married Paul Marion Turner in 1954 and he was killed in action in the Korean Conflict in 1954. On September 3, 1955, she married Herman Glenn Gopffarth at Duplex Baptist Church in the Duplex Community of Fannin County. Glenn preceded her in death May 19, 2003. Phyllis was a sales representative for Electrolux for 27 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Bonham. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Stanley "Buddy" Gibbs, Eddie Maurice Gibbs and Peyton Gibbs, 3 sisters, Sarah Keeton, Juana Jean McKissack and Norma White, and a grandson, Jon McBroom.
Phyllis is survived by ~ four daughters and their Families,
Katrecia Sandlin (Bonham, TX) and her children, Walter Sandlin and Alex Sandlin; Susan Lopez and husband, Frank (Dallas, TX) and her children, Max Berlin, Noah Berlin, Avery Berlin, Christian Lopez and children, Frank Lopez, Jr. and Giselle Lopez; Mitzi Gopffarth (Fort Worth, TX) and her children Amanda Winkles, J. R. Ohr, William Smith and wife, Sarah and their son, Andrew;
Donna McBroom and husband, David(Bonham, TX) and their children, Darrell McBroom, Geoffrey McBroom and wife, Mallory and daughter, Marilynn Braley, Jon McBroom (deceased) and his children, Kelcie McBroom and Kyle McBroom;
two sisters, Jimmie Carol Walker of Bonham, TX and Beverly Havens and husband, Bobby of Pottsboro, TX; three sisters-in-law, Jodie Gibbs, Sarah Jo Gibbs and Kathleen Kight; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and June Gopffarth; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
