Dr. Patrick Michael Martin, age 70 of Richardson, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017. Dr. Martin was born in December of 1946 in Pueblo, Colorado to Earl and Alice (Gallagher) Martin. Dr. Martin was preceded in death by his Parents, Earl & Alice Martin, Sister, Maureen Martin Berenson and brother Kevin Martin.
Patrick is best described as devoted husband, father, warrior, and educator. He and his wife Sylvia were married for 15 years and he always described her as the love of his life. He instilled a keen sense of ambition in his sons and they are both Ivy League graduates (Dartmouth and University of Pennsylvania). Timothy is senior counsel for an international Fortune 500 corporation and Michael is a partner in an international multi-media/digital corporation. Patrick spent 23.5 years in the US Air Force and travelled to 49 countries during that time. After his military retirement, he earned a teaching certificate and was a special education teacher and lead at an Irving ISD high school.
Other notable accomplishments include holding 2 U.S. patents -- one for an ATM and one for an automatic price change sign used in gas/convenience stores. Patrick also was Chairman of the Board for the Supplier Board of Directors of the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS).
Patrick's life philosophy was, "I never want to retire as I think everyone should stay engaged and contribute until the last possible moment." And he did.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Dr. Sylvia Gloria Garza of Richardson, TX; sons, Timothy Martin of New York, New York and Michael Martin of San Francisco, CA; sister, Kathleen Marks; brothers, Fr. Sean Martin, Brian Martin, Colin Martin. Other surviving family include several nieces and nephews.
The Martin family wishes to thank the staff of Clyde Cosper Texas Veterans Home in Bonham, TX and the Knights of Columbus Council 13044 in Allen, TX.
Inurnment will take place on a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.
