Oscar Edward Vandeventer

Funeral services for Oscar Edward Vandeventer, 79, of Ivanhoe, will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Bettes Cemetery. Rev. Don Cofer and Rev. Mickey Lyles will officiate. Oscar passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2015 at The Homestead of Sherman.
Oscar was born April 1, 1935 in Nida, Bryan Co., Oklahoma, the son of Maurice Allen "Buster" Vandeventer and Hazel Lorene Glover Vandeventer. He was a graduate of North Fannin High School in Ivanhoe, Texas. Oscar married Patsy Merle Danner on Apr. 7, 1956 in Bonham, Texas, and she preceded him in death Jan. 28, 2009. He was a member and deacon of Elwood Baptist Church. Oscar was a butcher for Clayton's Food Store in Bonham for a number of years before going to work as a welder for Valley Power Plant where he retired. Following his retirement, he continued welding and maintaining farm equipment for many in North Fannin County. He also shoed horses and was a teacher and mentor to a number of people learning the art of welding. He enjoyed singing and playing country music on his guitar – 'pickin & grinnin'. He was a member of the NRA and loved his two dogs, Buddy and Geronimo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Oscar is survived by his sons, Richard Allen Vandeventer (Debra) of Yuba, Oklahoma, Gary Don Vandeventer of Ivanhoe, Texas and
Tony Howard (Patsy) of the Lamasco Community of Fannin County, Texas; daughter, Alisa Vandeventer Morgan of Ivanhoe, Texas; sister, Joan Teague of Sherman, Texas; grandchildren, Tony & Lynsie Matthews, Ryan Cirkles, Hannah Cirkles, Caitlin Currin, Todd & Alyssa Hubbard, Lane & Sammie Jo Vandeventer, Stormy and Michael Mason, Paige & Garrett Banker and Shelby Vandeventer; great grandchildren, Camryn and Nolan Hubbard, Cash and Aubrey Mason, Mason and Brady Banker, and Bayleigh and Devyn Vandeventer; brother-in-law, Richard Danner (Mary) of Ravenna, Texas; nephew, Colonel (Ret.) Ben & Susan Danner of Salado, Texas; nieces and nephews, James, Paul, and Vickie Robertson, and Stephanie Teague Bruno; and lifelong best friend, Butch Underwood.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and Tony Howard, Ben Danner, Garrett Banker and Michael Mason. Honorary pallbearers will be his coworkers at the Valley Power Plant and Elwood Baptist Church Deacons.

Memorials may be made to Elwood Baptist Church Building Fund or Fannin County Critters.
