Funeral services for Oscar Lee Horton, 93, of Dodd City will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 13, 2013 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Rogers and Rev. Clay Horton will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. Oscar passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-WNJ in Sherman.

Oscar was born February 23, 1920 in the Lannius Community of Fannin County, Texas, the son of Fletcher Baxter Horton and Sallie Ann McNabb Johnson Horton. He was a 1939 graduate of Windom High School. Oscar married Laverne Herriage on Feb. 7, 1947 in Dodd City, Texas. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. Oscar was a 32nd degree Mason with 50 plus years and a member of the Lannius United Methodist Church. Oscar retired from E-Systems in Greenville, TX after 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and watching the Dodd City Hornets and the Texas Rangers. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Alton Horton, Earl Horton, Thurmond Horton, J. B. Horton, Everett Horton, Vaden Horton and Nelson Johnson, and three sisters, Belle Johnson, Irene Bankston and Estelle Cooper.

He is survived by
Wife of 66 years, Laverne Horton of Dodd City
Son, Harold Horton of Dodd City
Daughters, Nancy Horton and Rita Horton, both of Sherman
Sister, Lois Maxwell of Dodd City
Grandchildren, Johnny Horton and wife, Carrie; Brenton Horton and wife, Cynthia; and Brandon Horton
Great Grandchildren, Holden, Jade, Justin, Hunter and Fletcher
Numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Holden Horton, Jade Horton, Justin Horton, Hunter Horton, Fletcher Horton, Will Reed, Connor Reed, Casey Rogers and Colby Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and Craig Reed, Jaylen Wallace and Landon Darwin.

Memorials may be made to the Lannius United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday night.
