Graveside Services for Oneta Baker, age 91, of Bonham, Texas will be held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, November 1, 2019 at Randolph Lindsey Cemetery in Randolph, Texas under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Minister Allan Lay from Northside Church of Christ will officiate. Oneta passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Rockwall, Texas.
Oneta was born on November 27, 1927 in Bailey, Texas, the daughter of Vestal Everett Smith and Edith Hazel Vaughn Smith. She grew up in Randolph, Texas, graduating from high school in 1945. She married Jimmie Joe Baker in Ector, Texas in 1947. They were married 48 years before his passing in 1995. Her work experience includes, ammunitions factory after high school graduation, the Sherman Phone Company for a short period of time, Hunt's Department Store, Woolworth's, Food Service at the Bonham VA, and Bonham Manufacturing Co.; however, her most rewarding work was at Education Plus. She enjoyed working with the students and seeing them succeed. Oneta was a member of Northside Church of Christ where she was very active until her health began to fail. In addition to her church involvement, she worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the TMC Bonham Hospital gift shop. She will be sorely missed. Oneta is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Jimmie Michael Baker, and Grandson, Jon David McBroom.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Reece and husband Mike of Heath, Texas and Sue Jenks of Garland, Texas; sisters, Oleta Taylor of Mesquite, Texas, Betty Blackerby and husband Bobby of Bonham, Texas, Peggy Daugherty of Paris, Texas, Freda Shackelford of Wolfe City, Texas, Janie Milstein and husband Mark of Dallas, Texas, and Celia Conrad and husband Charles of Garland, Texas; brother, John Smith and wife Shirley of Peachtree, Georgia; grandchildren, Kerri Reece Sepcic and husband Adrian of Frisco, Texas, Andy Reece and wife Linda of Heath, Texas, Michael Baker of Florida, Angela Baker of Savoy, Texas, Derrick Baker, and Sam Harrison of Garland, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jimmie Baker, Avery Reece, Penny Reece, Anne-Marie Harrison, John-Michael Harrison, Kelcie Lester, Kyle McBroom, Emma Feldman, Coby Wilson and Mikeal Campbell; several great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Reece, Sam Harrison, Kyle McBroom, Andy Reece, Jeff Moore, and Adrian Sepcic.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Kemp, Curtis Kinsloe, Steve Mohundro, Cecil Taylor, and Bobby Vaught.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 1, 2019.
