With profound love and deep gratitude for a life well lived we announce the passing of Ona Thronton Graves, who entered her eternal home on July 25, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on February 10, 1939, in Hope, Arkansas, Ona later made her home in Dodd City, Texas, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and unconditional love.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched. Ona proudly embraced her role as a lifelong homemaker, often referring to herself with a smile as a “Domestic Engineer.” She believed there was no greater calling than caring for her family, creating a warm and welcoming home, and making sure those she loved always knew they belonged. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and countless treasured memories.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether she was collecting owls, creating beautiful woodworking projects, crafting ceramics, working word puzzles, casting a fishing line, or listening to Gospel music—especially the beloved Gaithers—Ona appreciated the blessings that each day brought. Her hobbies reflected her creativity, patience, and appreciation for God’s creation.

Ona was known for her loving heart, spirited nature, and unwavering convictions. She could be mildly opinionated and was certainly set in her ways, qualities that only made her more endearing to those who knew and loved her. She spoke her mind with honesty, loved fiercely, and stood faithfully beside her family through every season of life.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 wonderful years, Harold Edward Graves, whose lifelong love and devotion were a beautiful testament to the sacred bond of marriage. She also leaves behind her children: Glenda (Joe Michael) Chambless of Kemp, Texas; Dee Garza of Dodd City, Texas; William (Kathy) Graves of Dodd City, Texas; Larry Graves of Dodd City, Texas; and Russell (Kristy) Graves of Dodd City, Texas. Ona’s greatest joy was her family. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great- great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable happiness to her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Delphia Webb, Ruby Coble, and Tommie Hobbs, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory forever.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Maurice Thornton and Merle Thornton, and her brother, Deanie Thornton.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in knowing that Ona’s faith has become sight and that she now rests in the presence of her Savior. The love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will continue to guide her family for generations to come.

Ona’s life reminds us that true greatness is found not in worldly accomplishments but in faithfully loving and serving others. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.

The funeral is Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 2pm. Visitation is 1hr prior to service with burial following at Hilger Cemetery.
