Rev. Normous George Free "Preacher Free", 88, of Bonham, Texas went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2016 in Lufkin, Texas. He was born February 24, 1928 in Marthaville, Louisiana to Thomas William and Annie Delia Birdwell Free. Rev. Free was preceded in death by his son, Rev. Paul Rickey Free of Mississippi as well as six brothers and one sister, and one grandson, Keith William Campbell of Dallas, Texas. Survivors include wife, Hazel Cox Free of Lufkin, Texas, daughter-in-law, Melissa Reinhardt Free of Southhaven, Mississippi, his son and daughter-in-law, Normous George, Jr. "Buddy" and Kellie Free of Ennis, Texas, daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Ben Watson of Huntington, Texas; one sister, Betty Sue Free Inman of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren: Nathan and Amanda Free of Jenks, Oklahoma, Joshua and Ashley Watson of Lufkin, Texas, Bailey Free of Ennis, Texas, Thomas Free of Southhaven, Mississippi, Jacob Watson of Huntington, Texas, and Daniel Burgess of Dallas, Texas. Great-grandchildren: Dylan, Audrey and Chelsea Free of Jenks, Oklahoma and Katie Grace Watson of Lufkin, Texas. Special Friend, Geneva Atnip and puppy, Baby Doll of Bonham, Texas as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
At the age of 17, Normous was saved and answered the call to preach the gospel. He graduated from The Congregational Methodist Bible School and began his ministry that spanned over 70 years. Rev. Free preached his final sermon last year at the Bonham Congregational Methodist Church. He loved the Lord Jesus, his family, friends, and his animals. He never met a stranger.
The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home in Bonham, Texas on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 PM with a Celebration Service of Rev. Free's life Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 pm at Bethany Cemetery in Marthaville, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts and donations be made to the Bonham Congregational Methodist Church in memory of Rev. Free.
