Nan was born to Fred B. Long and Nannie Lavana Wyles Long on May 18, 1933. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior while just a young girl and was baptized in a pond located in the Boyd community. On April 22, 1949, Nan and Charlie took a road trip to Oklahoma to get married and begin a life together. Nan graduated from Bonham High School that same year, keeping her marriage secret from almost everyone the last month of school.

Nan was employed by the Denison Herald and Dallas Times Herald for over thirty years, and she spent many hours on the paper routes, travelling the county and delivering newspapers. She later worked for Bonham ISD as a cafeteria lady before retiring to keep grandchildren. She came out of retirement a short time later, driving for Bonham Chrysler on a daily route to McKinney.

Nan was a member of First Baptist Church Bonham.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, of 57 years, and her youngest son Jimmy Herpeche.

She is survived by her children: Freddie and Richard Hilliard, Charles and Beckey Herpeche, Charlsie and John Vaught, all of Bonham, Tammie and David Williams of Ivanhoe, and Rebecca Herpeche of Dodd City.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Rich Hilliard, Jason Hilliard, Micah Hilliard, Amy Brinlee, Lacey Chaney, Zach Williams, Brooke Barker, Blake Herpeche, Kamey Sprouse, Lexi Adkins, Kate Vaught, Maggie Vaught, and 22 great grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind a loyal group of friends and her beloved "game posse."
