Millard Travis Harkrider

Millard Travis Harkrider passed away at his home on April 27, 2024 in Bonham, TX.

He was born on June 21, 1935 in Longview, TX to Florence and Ansel (Aubrey) Harkrider. Millard was a mathematical genius and a computer scientist. In his own words - life after high school has been good. Academically, he managed a BS in Math at Texas Tech University and a MS in Math at the University of Tennessee. From a career standpoint, four years were spent in the Air Force. After the AF six years were spent in charge of a group of mathematicians at Oak Ridge National Laboratory where they developed solutions to nuclear energy and health safety problems, and then programmed the results on early computers. Millard then spent a few years living at the Space Center in Huntsville managing even a larger group of men and women that solved space problems. He has also been the head of a college science department and has had the privilege of teaching some brilliant students. Millard and Jackie his first wife had three sons:  Craig, Neal, and Derek. After the passing of Jackie, Millard married Marcella his second wife at the age of 50. In his spare time Millard enjoyed, writing, golf and fast horses.

Millard is preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Harkrider, second wife, Marcella Harkrider and his parents.

He is survived by sons, Craig Harkrider and wife Sharon, Neal Harkrider, Derek Harkrider and wife, Wendy, grandchildren, Benjamin Harkrider (Bianca), Aaron Harkrider, Anna Harkrider, Kristi Harkrider Bradley, Gavin Harkrider, Nathaniel Harkrider, Lauren DeLong, Bryce Harkrider, Isabelle Harkrider, great- grandchildren, Ayla Harkrider, Elsie Harkrider, Noelle Harkrider, Tirzah Harkrider, Miriam Harkrider, Emmett Harkrider, Sydney Bradley, and Grant Bradley.

Please join the family on May 9, 2024 at 2:00PM at Forest Home Baptist Church for a memorial service. The church is located at 15746 CR 173N, Kilgore, TX 75662.
