Funeral services for James Michael "Mike" Smith, 65, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Bonham, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. His brother, Rev. Joe Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Hampton Cemetery. Mike passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Memorial Hermann Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

Mike was born July 30, 1950 in Bonham, Texas, the son of Willie A. Smith and Sallie Jo Tarpley Smith.
He was a graduate of Bonham High School in 1968 and Southeastern State University and University of Houston receiving his Master's degree in Counseling. Mike was of the Baptist faith and was a former coach, counselor and retired as principal for Refugio ISD and was involved as a Channelview ISD board member and many school programs including the Close-up Foundation where he enjoyed taking students to Washington D.C. along with Rodeo and Livestock shows in the area. Some of his hobbies included writing a novel and playing the guitar. He married Glenda Vaughn on August 31, 1968 in Ladonia, Texas. He was preceded in death by brothers, Glen, Dale and Wetzel Smith and sisters, Sue King and Linda Rogers.
He is survived by:

Son: Cody Michael Smith of Houston, TX
Brothers: Joe Smith and wife, Paula of McKinney, TX
David and wife, Patsy Smith of Lufkin, TX
Ronnie and wife, Shari Smith of Waxahachie,TX
Sisters: Ann Brown of Ft. Worth, TX
Sherrill and husband Vincent Hash of Brock, TX
And a host of extended family and friends

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, November 2, 2015.
