Michael "Mike" Dale Nelson

Funeral services for Michael Dale "Mike" Nelson, 72, of Bonham, will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Boyd Baptist Church, 3707 N. State Hwy 78, Bonham, TX under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.  Mike's sons, Bro. Chris Nelson and Rev. Cody Nelson will officiate.  Burial with military honors will follow in Gober Cemetery.  Mike passed safely into the arms of his Savior on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX.

Mike was born October 19, 1947 in Bonham, Texas, the son of William Clarence Nelson, Sr. and Opal Lucille Carpenter Nelson. He was a Gober Plowboy and a 1966 graduate of Gober High School.  Mike married Gloria McCraw on August 20, 1971 in Bonham, Texas.  He was a United States Air Force veteran, and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War.   Mike was a mechanical engineer at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham for over 30 years and later worked for the Buster Cole Unit in maintenance for 10 years.  He was a longtime member of Boyd Baptist Church and the men's Sunday School Class.  He was a lifelong member of the Bonham Constantine Masonic Lodge #13.  Mike served with the Boy Scouts and earned the Silver Beaver Award.  He also served on the Gober Cemetery Board for a number of years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and mowing. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Randall Miller Nelson, Bobby Dean Nelson, David Thurman Nelson and William Clarence "Dub" Nelson, Jr.

Mike leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gloria Nelson of Bonham, TX; two sons, Chris Nelson and wife, Kristi of Bonham, TX and Cody Nelson and wife, Kristina of Savoy, TX; a daughter, Callie Nelson Ramer and husband, Andy of Ivanhoe, TX ; a brother, Larry Nelson and wife, Nelda of Fairview, TX; a sister, Charlotte Grooms and husband, Kenneth of Paris, TX; eight grandchildren, Kelsee Nelson McMorris and husband, Cory, Kaylee Nelson Labor and husband, Nathan, Landon Nelson, Jaden Nelson, Deacon Ramer, Taylor Ramer, Emmitt Ramer and Cooper Ramer; two great grandchildren, Kace Henry Labor and Kodi Lyn McMorris; sisters-in-law, LaVerne Nelson of Bonham, TX, Janis Word of Ector, TX and Janet Nelson of Ovilla, TX; In-laws  and spouses, Ronnie and Cheryl Coonrod of Ravenna, TX, Jimmy McCraw of Ivanhoe, Mikey and Tina McCraw of Bonham, TX, David and Mary McCraw of Ravenna, TX, and John and Nancy Ary of Cartwright, Oklahoma and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Cody Nelson, Chris Nelson, Landon Nelson, Jaden Nelson, Andy Ramer, Larry Nelson, Ronnie Coonrod, Randy Nelson, and Deacon Ramer.  Honorary pallbearers will be the men's Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the Boyd Baptist Church Wednesday night meals fund or Operation Christmas Child.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020 at Boyd Baptist Church.
