Funeral services for Melvin Ray Smithart, 70, of Ravenna, will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Melvin passed away early Monday, August 20, 2012 at his residence.
Melvin was born Nov. 10, 1941 in Caney, Oklahoma, the son of Melvin Haskell Smithart and Virgia Mae Gann Smithart. He attended Hillcrest High School and Crozier Technical High School. Melvin married Mary Ann Phillips on July 6, 1963, and she preceded him in death, Nov. 12, 2008. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and enjoyed farming and ranching and spending time with his grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Rayna Ann Smithart (1967).
Melvin is survived by 2 sons, Phillip Bradley Smithart and wife, Nikki of Fate, TX, and
Christopher Ray Smithart and wife, Robin, of Corsicana, TX,
4 brothers, George Verlin Smithart of Cisco, TX, Raymond Thomas Smithart, Jerry Don Smithart and Paul Daniel Smithart, all of Little Elm, TX,
2 sisters, Alice Lorene Puyear of Rockwall, TX, and Peggy Joan Robbins of Irving, TX, 3 grandchildren, Briana DeAnn Smithart, Raylee Moriah Smithart and Easton Ray Smithart, and
numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
