Burial will follow at Arledge Ridge Cemetery. Margaret passed away early Friday morning, July 24, 2015 at the Woodmoore Assisted Living in Bonham.
Margaret was born August 18, 1924 in Hilger, Texas, the daughter of Barney Owen and Lottie Pleasant Cashion Owen. She was baptized at the Dodd City Baptist Church and graduated from Dodd City High School. Margaret took a leap of faith in 1945 to meet Jelly in New York when he came back from the war; traveling for the first time alone at the age of 18 despite her parents' wishes. This began Margaret and Jelly's love story. Margaret married J. L. "Jelly" Ford on August 8, 1943 and later, in 1948, she and her husband opened Jelly's Café. In 1962 they opened Jelly Ford's Ladies Apparel in Bonham where her customer service was impeccable. Margaret enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. She also attended many ballgames; boisterously cheering her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren on as they played. She would often say she was "a millionaire because of her family." Margaret was a prominent member of Bonham; everyone loved her spunky personality and her big heart; in short she was Grandmere to one and all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Denver Mitchell "Dink" Owen and Barney Owen, Jr., and her husband, the love of her life.
