Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Sue Grounds Long will be held at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bonham, Texas on 10:30 AM Saturday, August 28, 2021 under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Grove Hill Cemetery. Rev. Canon Dr. Robin Smith will officiate.
Linda was born June 17, 1948 to John Samuel Grounds and Audrey Lorene Dorsett Grounds of Van Alstyne, Texas.
She graduated from Van Alstyne High School and studied at North Texas State University. Majoring in Political Science and minoring in History, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Linda also attended Texas Tech University School of Law, SMU School of Law, El Centro Junior College, and East Texas State University where she received teaching certifications in Special Education (K-12), Elementary Education, and High School Social Studies (8-12).
She worked for various insurance companies as a claims adjuster and later worked in the Fannin County District Clerk's office. For a number of years, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Bonham Independent School District.
As a long-time member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bonham, Texas, Linda was active in several ministries. She served as Clerk of the Vestry, Treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and Verger.
In the community, she served as Treasurer of Fannin County Community Ministries and taught GED and adult reading classes. She was politically active, serving as Secretary for the Fannin County Republican Party and stints as Treasurer and Secretary for the Fannin County Republican Women.
Linda married her husband, Thomas Williams Mason Long, III in Dallas, Texas on July 8, 1972. They have two children.
She is predeceased by her husband and by her siblings John Samuel Grounds, Jr., George Elijah Grounds, and Marsha Ruth Grounds Gurak.
She is survived by her son Thomas Williams Mason Long, IV, his wife Jodi, and their two children, Ella and Thomas, of Angleton, Texas, and by her daughter Sarah Durham Long of Bonham, Texas.
She is also survived by her other siblings Lorene Grounds Cone of Nevada, Madison Lee Grounds of Connecticut, Kerry Kim Grounds of Bonham, Texas, and Barbara Gail Grounds Spencer of Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, please give a memorial to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bonham or to a charity of your choosing.
The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, August 27, 2021.
