Bonham

Funeral Services with Military Honors for Lewis Hutchins, age 83, of Bonham, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Wise Funeral Home. Pastor Kevin Lane will officiate. Burial will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham, Texas. Lewis passed away Tuesday evening, November 10, 2020 at Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham, Texas.

Lewis was born on August 16, 1937 in Savoy, Texas, the son of Johnny Calvin Hutchins and Ida Lavonia Statzer Hutchins. He graduated from Savoy High School in 1960 and attended Grayson County College where he earned his Associates Degree in Business. Lewis married Betty Carol Poindexter on August 29, 1964 in Bonham, Texas. They were married 56 years before his passing. Lewis joined the United States Army in 1969. He attended military school in aircraft electronics. Lewis bravely served during the Vietnam War. He worked for TP & L briefly. Then he worked for Bonham Lumber Co. and later Bush Lumber Co. in Dallas at the main office. He also worked at Foxworth Lumber Co. before working at General Cable where he worked for 10 years before retiring. Lewis enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and later on attended Bois d 'Arc Creek Cowboy Church. Family was everything to Lewis, his grandchildren were the light of his life. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Latrisha Carol Hutchins; brothers, Elijah Hutchins, Otis Hutchins, Elbert Hutchins, and Johnny Delany "JD" Hutchins; and sisters, Audra Fay Aldridge, Catherine Hill, Ola Lee House, Mary Ann Martin, and Frances Wilson.

Lewis leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Betty Hutchins of Bonham, Texas; son, Steven Lewis Hutchins of Bonham, Texas; daughter, Melissa Carol Barnes and husband Kevin of Rockwall, Texas; grandchildren, Alexis Britton, John Britton, Ryan Barnes, and Kelsey Barnes; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be John Britton, Ryan Barnes, Kevin Barnes, Johnny Martin, Shawn Britton, and Till Melugin.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
