Leroy Tarpley

Funeral services for Oscar Leroy Tarpley, age 86, of Bonham, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 26, 2015 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Roy Spore will officiate. Burial will follow in Arledge Ridge Cemetery. Leroy passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at his residence.

Leroy was born November 20, 1928 in the Edhube Community of Fannin County, Texas, the son of Oscar Washington Tarpley and Mallie Mae Grimes Tarpley. He attended school in Edhube and was a graduate of Bonham High School. Leroy was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He married Betty Jean Harper on Sept. 4, 1952. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Bonham and one of his favorite bible scriptures was the comforting 23rd Psalm. Leroy was a self-employed electrician and enjoyed teaching computer classes at Grayson County College and Vocational Electronics at Bonham High School. He also enjoyed playing Country & Western music on a steel guitar, fishing and farming. He loved western movies and TV shows and even filmed a western locally. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters, Gertrude Scroggins, Edith Hollis and Grace Logan.

Great Grandchildren, Austin Leatherwood, Alex Leatherwood, Ayden Leatherwood and Koen Parks
Pallbearers will be Austin Leatherwood, Kelly Kemp, Travis Howery, Micah Parks, Edward Lowe and Richard McBride. Honorary pallbearers will be Lowery Stone, Bret Simpson, Roy Paul Kemp and John Tarpley.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015.
