Leonard Ray Naylor, 62 of Elwood, TX went home to be with his Lord on July 17, 2017 at Medical City of Plano. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel, with Mike Mosley officiating. Burial will follow at Elwood Cemetery in the Elwood Community near Ivanhoe.
Leonard was born on January 1, 1955 to John Lawrence and Johnnie (Long) Naylor in San Marcos, TX on Edward Gary Air Force Base. Growing up Leonard traveled many places with his family as his dad retired from the Air Force. Leonard went to Sam Rayburn High School and joined the United States Marines. Leonard had a variety of jobs and in his last working years he was a bail bondsman. He later attended Grayson County College to obtain a certificate in alcohol and drug dependency counseling.
Leonard was a one of a kind. His children describe him as the most generous person they knew, recalling him always giving to others around him. Leonard loved the Lord, his 3 children and 5 grandchildren with everything he had. The love he had for his grandchildren was unexplainable. One of his favorite things to say to his kids was "Don't worry just pray and ask God."
He was preceded in death by his father John Lawrence Naylor of Ivanhoe, brother, John Lawrence Naylor II of Ivanhoe and grandparents Higginbotham "Doc" and Donne Pearline Long of Randolph and William and Alice Naylor of Fitchburg, MA.
He is survived by sons, Travis Naylor and Toby Naylor of Elwood; daughter, Tasha Burkard and husband, Danny Burkard of Ivanhoe; grandchildren, Hailey and Luke Naylor of Elwood and Alexis, Colton, and Adalyn Burkard of Ivanhoe; mother, Johnnie Long Naylor of Telephone. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronny and Deborah Naylor of Telephone; Mike and Joevelyn Naylor of Leonard, sister and brother-in-law Pam and Lynn Gibbs of Telephone and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Craig Miller, Johnny Murray, Rusty Lyles, Josh Baker, Gary Patton and Lee Etta Brawner. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Cook, Dale Chaffin, Butch Baker, Cory McCraw, Jo Scrivner Cook and Tony Brawner.
The family will receive friends, beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, one hour prior to the service at Wise Funeral Home Chapel.
