Laudean Cox

January 27, 1920 — November 12, 2013

A graveside funeral service will be held for Laudean Cox of Bonham, 2:00 PM Saturday, November 16 at Willow Wild Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Pastor Cody Nelson of 7th & Main Baptist Church will officiate.
Laudean Joines Cox departed this world Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at age 93. Laudean was a fighter until the end, but finally succumbed to the ravages of time and old age. She was born January 27, 1920 in Orangeville, Texas to Thomas Charles and Jessie Louzedie Pruitt Joines. She and her family moved to their 80 acre farm in Draw, Texas when she was in an infant, but moved back to Fannin County in 1935 during the height of the infamous Dust Bowl. In spite of the hardships, Laudean loved the formative years she spent in west Texas and enjoyed telling stories of life on the plains. The grandchildren loved hearing tales of chickens being picked up and whirled about by the ever present dust devils and of her family's infrequent two-day trips back to Fannin County in their Ford Model T sedan, which required camping overnight alongside the road.
She married Glen Cox in Randolph on November 27, 1937. Glen preceded her in death on June 12, 2009 after 71 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thomas Charles Joines, Jr., and two sisters, Lillian Orveta Williams and Birdie Mozelle Snider.
She is survived by her son, Leldon, and wife Barbara, of Bonham, grandson Chuck, and wife, Cheryl, of Aledo, grandson Vince, of Whitesboro, and granddaughter Athena Chaney, and husband Ricky, of Melissa, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Laudean and Glen attended Bonham's First Church of the Nazarene where she played the organ for many years. She sold Avon during the 1960s and early 1970s. During this time, she accumulated a sizeable collection of Avon artifacts which complemented her vast collection of glassware. She also loved porcelain dolls, the numerous cats she cared for over the years, and her chickens. She spent many enjoyable years during the 1980s working as a cook at the First Baptist Day Care Center in Bonham where her sister-in-law, Jo Willa Cox Parker, was director.
Laudean spent countless hours tending to her flowers and vegetable garden, then spent countless more hours canning the bounty of vegetables from her garden as well as fruit jams and preserves. She will always be remembered for her fine country cooking and for serving some of the grandest holiday feasts anyone could ever imagine.
She doted on her grandchildren like few grandmothers could and lavished them with attention and unconditional love. The phrase "spoiled rotten" took on new meaning when her grandchildren were involved.
Serving as pall bearers will be Chuck Cox, Clayton Cox, Caleb Cox, Vince Cox, Colton Cox, Jonathan Hissam, and Ricky Chaney.
The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Saturday just prior to the funeral service. An online guest register is available at www.wisefuneralhome.com.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Leonard Manor for the loving care they provided to Laudean in her final years.
