Katherine Palmer

Funeral Services for Katherine, 97 of Bonham will be held at 1:00 P.M. at Bethlehem Baptist Church under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Pastor Stuart Courtney will officiate. Burial will follow at Fannin Memorial Gardens. The life of Katherine L. Hill Palmer, was interrupted from her earthly home to her heavenly residence on Saturday, September 12, 2015.

She was born December 27, 1917, in Ravenna, Texas, to the late Sim and Winnie Hill, both of which proceeded her in death. She was also proceeded in death by a son, Charles Palmer; three brothers, Jake R. Edward and George Hill and two sisters, Hattie Jones and Lavicea Rice.

Katherine attended Ravenna public school. Her family later moved to Bonham, Texas where she met Elijah Palmer. In 1938, Katherine and Elijah were united in marriage. Within this union they were blessed with seven children.

At an early age, Katherine accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was a faithful member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church for nearly 70 years. She was a member of the choir in her early years and served on the Mission Society for many years. On May 20, 2007, the Church honored her as the oldest Mother and Member of the church. Katherine exhibited excitement about her relationship with God. She would stand, clap her hands and sing praises to her God. When she would hear the popular phrase "God is good", her response would be "He is better than that"!

Katherine shared her excellent homemaking and cooking skills working for many families. Some of her hobbies were embroidery, watching sports TV…baseball, tennis, golfing and BET. She enjoyed reciting poetry and singing. Unknown too many, Katherine had a beautiful high soprano voice in which she would use to add her own version to a song.

Katherine memories will be treasured by her family which remains: a son, Elijah (Tonya) Palmer, Jr., McKinney, TX; five daughters, Constance (Samuel) Bogar, Sr, Bonham, TX, Sweet Magnolia (Anthony) Divers, Topeka KS, Ethel Carter, Arlington, TX, Delphine Johnson, Riverside, CA and Anita (David) Johnson, Bonham, TX; two grandchildren she raised, Shuntai (Charles) Woods and Nigal Palmer; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Ross, Dennis White, Jamarce Palmer, Nigal Palmer, Larry McBride, Samuel Bogar, and Wallace Bogar.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Bowen, Charles Woods, Delmer Traylor, Dwight Mason, Guy Ransom, Joe Clyde Dale, John Evans, Paul Brown, Roosevelt Ross, and Tony Perry.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday night, September 17, 2015. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to service time on Friday.
