Katherine "Kathy" Ann Smith

Katherine Ann Newman Smith, affectionately known to all as Kathy, passed away on June 10, 2025, with the same grace and flair with which she lived her 61 vibrant years. She was born on April 27, 1964, in Dimmitt, Texas to Troy and Margaret Newman. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX.

After graduating from Dodd City High School, Kathy dove headfirst into the world of healthcare. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, she spent her days (and plenty of nights) at the local nursing home, where she was known for her spirited care and the uncanny ability to bring a smile to all the residents.

Kathy's interests were as colorful as her personality. She could often be found crocheting and spending time with her family. But let's talk about Kathy as "Nana." If there were an Olympic event for grandparenting, Kathy would have had taken home the gold medal.

Describing Kathy as "spirited" is just the start of this wonderful woman. She was known for her strength, independence, and steadfast devotion to those she loved most. Her favorite times were spent when she would sing with her daddy. Those left to cherish her memory, are her children, Michael Newman, James Smith, Juanita Smith, Kenneth Smith, long time boyfriend, Gayland Freeman, step-daughters, Carmelita Workman (Jessie Workman), Joanna Gilbreath (Tyler), step-son, Colton Gilbreath (Karen), siblings, Mike Newman (Tina), Joey Newman, Troy Newman (Kels), Jack Newman (Rocio), Richard Newman, Bobbie Newman (Mary Jane), grandchildren, Kamren, Brianna, Bridget, Kammie, Kenley, Karmen, Kaiden, Payton, Joscalyn, JJ, Asher, Kole, Adeline, Parker and Jacob.

She is preceded in death by, parents, Troy and Margaret Newman, brothers, Roger Newman, Willie Newman, sister, Jill Faye Newman, and grandson, Kevin Gene Smith. Kathy will be laid to rest next to her big brother Willie Dean Newman at Dodd City Cemetery on Monday, June 16, 2025. The chapel service will begin at 11am at Wise Funeral Home and the family will receive friends on Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jack Newman, Bobbie Newman, Jeffery Newman, Jacky Newman, Jessie Workman, and Bradley Brigham.
