Memorial Services for John Scott Long, age 71, of Bonham, Texas will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Brother T. P. Cunningham will officiate. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. John passed away Sunday morning, July 18, 2021, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.
John was born on August 3, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, the son of John Bryan Long and Muriel Rosine Proctor Long. He served in the United States Army National Guard and attended El Centro College and East Texas State. John worked for the Post office for 35 years before retiring from the Farmers Branch Station. He was an avid sports collector; he enjoyed football and baseball the most. John was a history buff, he enjoyed reading, trains, and old cars. Diet Dr. Pepper was his favorite drink. He dearly loved his family, but the most important thing in his life was Jesus. He was strong in his faith and helped start several online ministry groups. John's passion was spreading the gospel by handing out Bible tracts. The legacy of John's kind spirit and faith in God will live on through all that knew him. John is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deborah Long.
Left to cherish his memories is daughter, Lisa Michelle Williams and husband Stephen of Honey Grove, Texas; grandchildren; Abigayl Avelar, Lori Avelar, Jacob Avelar, and bonus grandchild, Lucas Williams.
