A funeral mass for John Edward Kollar, Sr., 91, of Bonham, Texas, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Bonham under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Father Stephen Bierschenk will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery. John passed away early Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham.
John was born June 20, 1923 in Clymer, Pennsylvania, the son of Michael Kollar and Mary Ellen Baron Kollar. He was a graduate of Clymer High School. John married Evelyn Elaine Kollar on May 3, 1952. He was a US Air Force veteran (ret.) and served as a navigator, bombardier, and later as a pilot during WWII, Korea, and the Berlin Airlift. John was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. He was the credit manager at V.P.G and enjoyed golfing in his free time. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Edward Kollar, Jr. "Johnny" and three sisters, Mary Kollar, Ann Kollar, Helen Boyce and Margaret Duby.
John is survived by his wife, Evelyn Kollar, of Bonham; daughter, Janet Elaine Coker and husband, Harley, of Pensacola, FL; a brother, Mike Kollar and wife, Mary Ann of Tulsa, OK; sister, Grace Kollar of North Olmsted, Ohio; two grandchildren, Stephanie Early and Benjamin Early; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Early, Harley Coker, Dale McGehee, Doug Person, Ronnie Welch, Warren Jamieson and Joey Caldwell. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Kollar.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Alzheimers Foundation.
