Graveside services with military honors for John Mellor Ackerman, 95, of Bonham, will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015 at Moores Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. John passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Beacon Hill in Denison, Texas.

John was born Oct. 27, 1920 in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of John May Ackerman and Rebecca Mellor Ackerman. He graduated from Paterson High School and received his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. John married Betty Jeanne Schwertfeger on Sept. 7, 1944 in West Englewood, New Jersey, and she preceded him in death May 4, 1990. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII where he skippered a mine sweeper. John was a member and Elder of the Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, Arizona. His career was in packaging and gravure printing, where he served as a past president of the Gravure Assoc. of America. He was employed by the Kelloggs Co. for over 20 years before retiring. John was also a member of the Elks Club and the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at Lafayette College. When not working or spending time with family, he could always be found on the golf course!

John is survived by two daughters, Deirdre Goodwin and husband, Drew of Bonham, Texas and Aileen Gerken and husband, Michael of Morrison, Colorado; two sisters, Betty Blasberg and Ruth Nevers; six
grandchildren, Rick Heise, Reason Goodwin, Derek Goodwin, Breanna Goodwin, Laura Finley and Christopher Gerken; six great grandchildren, Nikolas and Colin Finley, Hailey Gerken, Connor and Keegan Heise, and Veric Goodwin; two nieces and three nephews.

Memorials may be made to Moores Chapel Cemetery or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
