Joe Tom Smith

A Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date for Joe Tom Smith, age 77, of Ector, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Joe passed away Friday afternoon, January 29, 2021 at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas.

Joe was born on April 25, 1943 in Bonham, Texas, the son of James Carrol Smith and Ova Mildred Vaughn Smith. He attended Ector High School and was a long-time member of Ector Baptist Church in Ector, Texas. Joe married Sherrie Lee Polk on August 11, 1963 in Frisco, Texas. They were married for 57 years prior to his passing. Joe enjoyed flying remote control airplanes. He was a knife and gun collector. Joe's passion was restoring classic cars, his favorites being Fords. He dearly loved his family. He was a Mason and a devoted man of God. He will be greatly missed. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Jack Smith and two infant brothers.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sherrie Smith of Ector, Texas; son, Buddy Smith and wife Sandra of Ector, Texas; daughter, Pam Thomason and husband Tim of Ector, Texas; grandchildren, Chelsea Thomason, Nathan Thomason, Tiffany Smith, and Heather Smith; great grandchildren, Jaden Smith, Tristan Smith, Triana Smith, and Kyla Smith Welton; bonus son, Kevin Paxton; extended family and friends.
