Joe "Cotton" Ross

Funeral services for Mr. Joe "Cotton" Ross, age 62, of Denison, will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Bonham, Texas. Pastor Flossie Collins will officiate, and Rev. Stuart P. Courtney will be offering the eulogy and Rev. Flora Jean Evans will be doing the prayer. Burial will follow in the Gates Hill Cemetery. Mr. Ross passed away in Sherman, Texas on January 28, 2020.

Joe was born on June 19, 1957 in Fannin County, the son of Lawrence Edward Ross and Barbara Jean Ganther Ross. He was a graduate of Bonham High School and married Shirley Ann Jones on July 21, 1978 in Bonham. He was a member of the Bradford Chapel A.M.E Church in Bonham and he enjoyed fishing and working for the Texas Laundry Company. He was formerly in the United States Army National Guard and proudly served his country.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Ross of Denison and his mother, Barbara Jean Ross of Bonham and his son Sydney Jones of Denison, daughter, Celena Runnels of Clarksville, brothers, Bobby Ross, Lawrence and Ross Jr. and his wife Pamela, Elder Tony Ross and wife Khalilah Ross, Terry Ross, Gerry Ross and sisters, Barbara Ross McFail and husband Kenneth, Nikita Stewart husband Melvin, Lisa Brown, and Debra Ann Johnson and eleven grandchildren, Uncle Roosevelt Ross Sr. and wife Vera, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Edward Ross and his father Lawrence Edward Ross and sister Mary Ann Thomas and his grandparents, Roosevelt and Millie Ross and his uncle Billy Ray Ross and uncle John Goodwin and Aunt Jean Ross Mayberry.

Pallbearers will be Tony Ross Jr., Jadaelyn Ross, Gerry Ross Jr., Dedrick Ross, Jerome Stewart, Rueben Phea, and Robert Luper.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, February 7, 2020.
