Jessie Ruth Smith

Graveside services for Jessie Ruth Smith, age 79 of Terrell, TX will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Dodd City Cemetery in Dodd City, TX , under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Officiating will be Chaplain Maureen Fryer. Ruth passed away on August 14, 2018. She was born September 11, 1938 in Fannin County, TX to William Howard Chandler & Hollie Opal Meek Chandler.

Ruth was an intelligent woman. She was promoted up a grade in grade school more than once. She married Benny Ray Smith on March 30, 1973 in Oklahoma. She was a graduate of SMU School of Nursing.  She spent 40+ years as an RN, which she loved passionately. In addition to nursing she was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader and loved bird watching.  She left a legacy of love everywhere she went. Her biggest treasure however was spending time her family.  She lived her life by the words of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Benny Ray Smith on November 20, 2015; parents, William Howard Chandler & Opal Meek Chandler; brothers, Robert Chandler and Howard Chandler.

Surviving are her brother, Danny Joe Chandler of Dallas, TX; children, Henry Miller of Fort Worth, TX; Pamela A. Ladd "Pam" (Steve) of Terrell, TX; Charley Miller (Charmane) of Fort Worth; Bobby Smith (Leigh) of Garland, TX, Tommy Smith (Kathy) of DeSoto, Joe Smith of Farmersville, TX, ,  and Jon Smith of Arlington, TX;  fifteen grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren;  and numerous nieces and nephews

Pallbearers will be her Sons & Grandsons.

The family will receive friends at 10-11 AM prior to the service, on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Wise Funeral Home.
