Jesse Marion Taylor

Funeral Services for Jesse Marion Taylor, age 96, of Telephone, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Bobby Hawkins of Luella Baptist Church in Sherman will officiate. Burial will follow at Carson Cemetery, in Ector, Texas. Jesse passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 surrounded by loved ones.
Jesse was born on January 23, 1921, the son of Jesse Eugene Taylor and Elberta Susan Odom Taylor. Jesse was born and grew up on a farm out of Soper, Oklahoma. He was the oldest son of nine children and dearly loved his siblings, always making sure they were cared for and safe. He played the fiddle and mandolin by ear, never having had a lesson and loved Blue Grass music. Jesse moved to the Fannin County area in the 50's. Many years later Jesse met the love of his life, Helen Harris Rogers. They married in 1978 and he inherited three sons, two daughters in law, and four grandchildren. From the moment he became a member of the Rogers family, he accepted them as if they were his own family, loving each and every one of them just as they did him. The grandchildren enjoyed learning about farming and gardening from Papa Jesse. Jesse loved his wife dearly and devoted himself to her, caring for her through her battle with Alzheimer's. Jesse made the best peanut brittle you have ever tasted. He enjoyed gardening even as he grew older. God blessed him in so many ways. He will be missed, but the many memories of his life and the moments spent with loved ones will forever be cherished. Jesse is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Rogers Taylor; brothers, Wayland Taylor, Euell Franklin Taylor, and Ray Taylor; sisters, Ruth Bohannon and Polly Rosenthal; sons, David Rogers and Dicky Rogers; grandsons, David Anthony Rogers and John Alton Rogers; and great grandson, Adam Garcia.
Jesse is survived by his son, Danny Rogers and wife, Doris of Sherman, Texas; sisters, Dama Stackhouse of Houston, Sue Putz of Tyler, and Shirley Holder and husband, Bill of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Dale Rogers, Darla Rogers Thompson, Dana Rogers Weinzapfel, Lisa Rogers Lokey, Sara Rogers Dresner, and Haley Rogers; great grandchildren, Ashley Garcia, Juniper Rogers, Willow Rogers, Mackenzie Thompson, Aubyn Thompson, Scarlet Dresner, August Dresner, and Emery Montez; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Morris McWhorter, Doug Wilson, Tony Taylor, Benny Snow, and Johnny Edge.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, February 24, 2017 an hour prior to service time.
