James Patrick (Jim) Doyle of Bonham, TX and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away August 18, 2021 at the age of 85. Born December 29, 1935 in Parnell, IA, and was the son of Alfonso and Marcella Doyle.
Jim graduated from Immaculate Conception in Cedar Rapids, IA.
After high school he enlisted in the US Army where we took great pride in serving his country. His service was mainly in Germany but included assignments in several other places.
Jim worked in construction his whole life as a bricklayer and stone mason. He eventually started Doyle Construction in Cedar Rapids and later moved his company to Texas. He was a man of many trades who could fix anything. If you ever ran across anything you were having trouble with, he could fix it.
Jim was known by several names including Dad, Jimmy, Pops, and Diamond Jim. Although he was known by various names to others, the name he was most proud of was "Grandpa". Although he loved his children and grandchildren, his great grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He loved to spoil them with gifts and enjoyed making them laugh. Jim loved all kids whether they were his or not.
Jim was a devoted father with the biggest heart and a true giver who showered his children with lavish gifts. He always made sure when he had a treat for one, he had a treat for all. He was a giver his whole life and was continually giving to others.
Jim had a never-ending list of stories to tell and could always make people laugh. He always had a way of making you laugh when you were feeling low.
His hobbies included playing the lottery, going to the casino, and restoring old tools and old toys. He enjoyed finding old things and restoring them back to life.
Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his daughters Elizabeth (Robert) Stowe, Bonham, TX, Michelle (Ricky) Swindell, Ballston Lake, NY, three grandchildren Rachael (John) Lehde, Bonham, TX, Ben Swindell (Cassandra), Schenectady, NY, Cheyenne (Matt) Davis, Bonham, TX, and four great grandchildren Giuseppe and Giulia Swindell, Amelia Lehde, and Charlotte Davis. Also surviving are sister Mary Pat Soligo, Wilmington, DE and brother Mike Doyle (Ann), Tampa, FL. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth Doyle, parents, sister Judy Difilippo, brother John Doyle, and son Michael Doyle.
Funeral Mass will be September 10th at 10.00 at St. Elizabeth Church, Bonham, TX, with Fr. Fred Caldwell officiating.
