Funeral services for Jack D. Smith, 85, of Bonham, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 7, 2015 at First Baptist Church under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Bro. Dave Renfrow will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery. Jack passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 4, 2015 at Seven Oaks Nursing & Rehab in Bonham.
Jack was born March 21, 1929 in Bonham, Texas, the son of Ranier Goforth Smith and Angie Belle Henson Smith. He was a graduate of Bonham High School. Jack married Nelda Dean Lewis on Oct. 4, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Bonham. He was a welder for Southwest Pump Company in Bonham for 30 years. He then owned a florist in Tyler, Texas and later was employed with New Horizons Home for Children in Golthwaite, Texas. Following this, Jack worked in the maintenance department at Grayson County College, retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, he owned a wholesale ceramic business. Jack was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and had been a member of the Constantine Masonic Lodge No. 13 for over 50 years. He loved being outside. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, R. G. Smith and William Eugene Smith, and a sister, Leta Belle Reasoner.
Jack is survived by his wife, Nelda Dean Smith of Bonham, TX; sister-in-law, Eleanor Smith of Whitewright, TX; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Bobby Vaught of Bonham, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Clark Smith, Nolan Wesley Smith, Billy Rainer Smith, James Donald Smith, James Ronald Smith, John Vaught, Larry Malone and Ernie Shrum.
