Howard Eugene "Gene" Pharr

Funeral Services for Gene Pharr, age 88, of Bonham will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Bro. John Lindsey of Edhube Baptist Church, and Bro. Brian Everett of Telephone Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hampton Cemetery in Edhube. Gene passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017, with his loving family by his side.
He was born September 19, 1928, the son of John Eugene Pharr and Ruby Ray Sagely Pharr. Gene was SAVED as a teenager, and throughout his life, it was well known that he always loved and served the Lord. He was an active member of Edhube Baptist Church for 44 years. He served his country as a Sargent in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. On June 21, 1952, he married Almena Williams. He began working for Ford Motor Company in 1953 and retired in 1970. In 1971 he joined General Cable, retiring in 1989. His greatest joy was spending time with his family; and he loved eating at IHOP.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ples Pharr and Buster Pharr; and a grandson, Jason Busby.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Almena Williams Pharr; daughters, Janice Lynn Murry and husband Danny of Farmersville, Jenny Lee Monroe of McKinney, and Ruthann McWhorter and husband Morris of Telephone; sisters, Elizabeth "Helen" Berg and husband Doug of Edhube and Louise Winn and husband J.W. of Mulberry; grandchildren James Busby and wife Tracy, Dustin Day, Nathan McWhorter and Fiancé Afton, Matt McWhorter and wife Miranda, Holley Hornsby, and Austin Monroe; great-grandchildren, Hunter Busby, Amber Busby, Natasha Mahan and husband Fred, Azlyn Hornsby, and Hudson Hornsby, Dalton Day and Ashlynn Day, and Emilee McWhorter; great-great grandchildren, Kylee Martin, Ryker Mahan and McKenna Mahan.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, James Busby, Dustin Day, Nathan McWhorter, Matt McWhorter, Austin Monroe, Fred Mahan and Hunter Busby. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Kinkade, Carl Watterson, Mike Bearden, Mac Stealings, Jim Martin and Dean Stroud.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM on Friday, February 17 at Wise Funeral Home.
