Funeral services for Harry Lee Hammett, 74, of Dodd City will be held at 3:30 PM Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Robert Bailey and Bro. Roy Burpo will officiate. Burial will follow in Dodd City Cemetery. Harry passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at Ennis Regional Medical Center in Ennis, Texas.
Harry was born July 26, 1940 in Blue, Oklahoma, the son of Hubert Lee Hammett and Ruby Dodson Hammett. He attended schools in Gober and Bonham and was a US Army veteran. Harry married Lynda Cox on January 25, 1964 in the Lannius Community of Fannin County, Texas. He was the owner and operator of Hammett Excavation, Inc. in Dodd City. Harry was a member of Lannius Church of God where he served on the Church Counsel for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Doyle Ray "D.R." Hammett.
Harry is survived by his wife, Lynda Hammett of Lannius, Texas;
son, Gaylon Hammett and wife, Melody of Lannius, Texas; two
brothers, Edward Hammett of Trenton, Texas and James Hammett and wife, Ellen of Bonham, Texas; three sisters, Betty Ragon and husband, Crawford of Dodd City, Texas, Wanda Baker of Dallas, Texas and Dorothy Berry and husband, Vernon of Manchester, Texas; four
grandchildren, Kaleb Hammett, Lauren Hammett, Skye Arrington and Shawnee Arrington; a number of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Chad Knight, Darin Stroud, Jeremy Standlee, Glenn Chapman, Jerry Lindsey, Brian Massie, Brad Oliver and Felix Callejas. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Collett and Kyle Turner.
