Harold Lee Reeves, 81, of Bonham, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026. Arrangements were made under the care of Wise Funeral Home out of Bonham, Texas.
Harold was born on June 16, 1944, in Muskogee, Oklahoma—a true “Okie from Muskogee,” a song he loved. Known since childhood by the nickname “Spunky,” a name that followed him throughout his life, Harold lived up to it in spirit, determination, and personality.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed aboard an aircraft carrier servicing military aircraft flown during the conflict. During his service, Harold also participated in special missions that involved flying into Vietnam to assist in the rescue of downed servicemen shot down during battle. In another notable honor, he was personally selected by an admiral to serve as his driver. Harold initially declined the position, but the admiral insisted—an honor Harold carried with great pride. After his military service, Harold worked for the City of Dallas, where he eventually retired. Shortly after retirement, he suffered a heart attack. Believing he might not live past 59—the age his father was when he passed—Harold was surprised and grateful to make a full recovery and go on to live a long life. Wanting to cherish every moment together, his wife Shirley soon retired as well, and the two began a new chapter side by side.
Harold and Shirley shared a love story rooted in companionship and adventure. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on January 2, just months before Shirley’s passing in May 2025. Together, they launched a booth at Canton Trade Days, traveling regularly to Arizona to purchase rocks and jewelry—work that felt more like fun than labor. Later, they expanded into selling Texas souvenirs to stores across the state, once again enjoying the travel and time together. They were happiest simply being together.
Harold loved garage sales, music, and—most of all—telling stories. Those closest to him often knew the endings well before he got there, yet Harold would continue on anyway, even if told the story had already been heard. He amused himself most of all and genuinely believed he was interesting and funny—and he absolutely was. Storytelling was one of his greatest joys and most endearing traits.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Troy Lasseigne; and three grandchildren he was immensely proud of: Taylor Lasseigne, Sydnee Lasseigne, and Derril Lasseigne. He is also survived by beloved family members Lenora Barber, Fairy Cooper, and Debbie Aleman, and by his dearest lifelong friends, Terry and Linda Nevil.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Reeves; his parents, Jack and Hazel Reeves; and his aunt and uncle, Ruth and Johnny Narramore.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Wise Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service held at the same location on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial. Military honors will be included.
Harold will be remembered for his service, his devotion to family, his love of life’s simple pleasures, and the stories that will continue to be told—just the way he would have wanted.
