Funeral services for Harold Horton, 61, of Dodd City, will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Clay Horton and Rev. James Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. Harold passed away Thursday night, Oct. 3, 2013 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Harold was born July 1, 1952 in Bonham, Texas, the son of Oscar Lee Horton and Laverne Herriage Horton. He was a 1970 graduate of Dodd City High School. Harold worked for the Ladonia Feed Store, managed the Center Street Exxon in Bonham, was the owner of Harold's Country Store in Dodd City and was currently the farm manager for LoJo Ranch. He attended the Lannius Methodist Church and the Ladonia Methodist Church. A lifetime resident of Fannin County, Harold was an avid outdoorsman and a past member of the Dodd City school board. He loved his grandkids and was known to them as "Big Dad". Harold was preceded in death by his parents in 2013.
Harold is survived by three sons, John Horton and wife, Carrie of Bonham, Texas, Brenton Horton and wife, Cynthia of Dodd City, Texas, and Brandon Horton of Dodd City, Texas, two sisters, Nancy Horton and Rita Horton, both of Sherman, Texas, grandchildren, Holden, Jade, Justin, Hunter and Fletcher, aunts, Lois Maxwell of Dodd City, Texas and Joyce Herriage of Levelland, Texas,
Many close friends and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Cole Johnson, Casey Rogers, Colby Rogers, Steven Taylor, Edwin Anderson, Tino Chaverria, Will Reed, Connor Reed, Jerry Herriage and Mark Herriage.
