Gertie Lee Henson

Gertie Lee Brown Henson (Muh), 95, was born August 15, 1923 in Ravenna, Texas the late Tom and Polly Topsy.  She started her education at Ravenna Public Schools, later attended school in Bonham, TX.  After moving to Bonham, she became a domestic worker.  Gertie became well known for her baking skills of cakes and other desserts.  She enjoyed family gatherings. She passed away on July 7, 2019 at Clyde Cosper Texas State Veterans Nursing Center in Bonham, Texas.

She accepted Christ at an early age; prior to her death, she was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Women's Mission Ministry and the Mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Theodore (Ted) Brown, who passed away October 12, 1959 and James Edward Henson Sr., who passed away May 21, 1991, and one son, Max Ivy Henson.

She is survived by her children, Joyce A. Woods (Willie) of Bonham, TX, Robert Brown (Jean) of Cedar Hill, TX, Josephine Phea (J. B.) of California, Rose M. Ransom (Guy) of Bonham, TX, Linda C. Givens (Jimmy) of Bonham, TX, Marilyn R. Finney (Larry) of Bonham, TX, Paul D. Brown of Corinth, TX, James E. Henson, Jr. of Bonham, TX, and Laquetta L. Dukes of Bonham, TX; a nephew, that was more like her son, Dennis White of Van Alstyne, TX.  She also leaves to cherish her memories, 23 grandkids, 29 great grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Bethlehem Baptist Church under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in New Upper Union Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Pete Mitchell, Derek Wilson, Juan Rayford, Bobby Ross, J. T. Givens, and James Woods.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Delmar Traylor, Joe C. Dale, Roosevelt Ross, Robert Woods, John Evans and Tony Perry.
